Recruitment software for finance: how AI sourcing works for accounting and control roles

For finance, AIcruiters is recruitment software that translates titles into responsibilities first: a "manager" at an audit firm and a finance manager at a company do different jobs. It treats protected titles such as RA or AA as hard only where the role requires them, searches across controlling, FP&A and audit synonyms, ranks on scope and reporting environment and approaches candidates discreetly, within your rules.

A stack of black, white and orange discs, like coins.

Where do finance candidates sit?

Finance professionals are among the most complete profiles on LinkedIn: employers, grades and qualifications are usually listed. The challenge is less finding them than reading them correctly, and reaching people who are not actively looking.

Protected titles and public registers

In the Netherlands the titles registeraccountant (RA) and accountant-administratieconsulent (AA) are legally protected and may only be used after registration in the accountants register kept by the NBA, which the public can consult. That makes RA and AA reliable search terms, as long as the title on a profile is checked against the register when it matters.

International qualifications

In investment, asset management and treasury, the CFA charter awarded by CFA Institute is a common signal, as are candidates who passed one or more levels of the programme. Treat "CFA Level II" differently from a charterholder.

Career paths as a source

Audit firms train large cohorts who move into industry after a few years. Alumni of those firms, controllers who came up through shared service centres and specialists who moved from banks to fintech are predictable, searchable paths.

Which requirements in a finance vacancy are hard?

Finance vacancies often ask for RA, Big Four and a specific ERP at once. Usually only one of those is truly required.

Requirement
When it is hard
When it is soft
RA or AA
Roles that require a registered accountant, such as signing audit opinions; confirm with the employer
Most controller and finance manager roles, where it is a preference
CFA
Rarely a formal requirement; sometimes expected in portfolio management
Most corporate finance roles
Audit firm background
Almost never
Useful for technical accounting; comparable experience elsewhere counts
ERP system
System owner or implementation lead roles
SAP versus Oracle versus Exact for a controller
Reporting framework
IFRS or regulatory reporting when that is the daily work
Dutch GAAP versus IFRS for a business controller
Dutch language
Local tax, payroll or Dutch-speaking stakeholders
International group reporting in English

Why do finance searches go wrong?

Finance titles often describe a grade or a department rather than the work.

  • Grade titles. At audit firms "senior" and "manager" are career grades. At many banks "Vice President" is a mid-level title, not an executive. Read responsibilities and team size instead.
  • Controller is not one job. Financial controller, business controller, plant controller and group controller need different profiles; FP&A analyst and planning and control specialist overlap with some of them.
  • Loose use of "accountant". Bookkeepers and administrative staff sometimes describe themselves as accountants. For roles that need a registered accountant, the register is the reference, not the profile.
  • Big Four as a proxy for quality. Filtering on audit firm alumni excludes strong controllers who grew up inside companies.
  • Ignoring the calendar. Auditors are hard to reach during year-end closing. A good message sent at the wrong moment is lost.

How AIcruiters' five steps play out for a finance vacancy

Illustrative example (fictional): a business controller for a mid-sized wholesale company in Zwolle, reporting to the CFO, hybrid.

Step 01 · Vacancy analysis

Separating title, grade and scope

Hard: HBO or university level in finance, several years of controlling or analysis, experience with management reporting and forecasting, Dutch. Soft: RA or AA, audit firm background, the specific ERP. Titles to map: business controller, FP&A specialist, financial analyst, controller.

A flat lay of paper, black and orange blocks with a magnifying glass: a vacancy broken into search signals.

Step 02 · Market search

Controlling, FP&A and audit routes

Searches run per title cluster and per career path, including audit seniors who moved to industry. Profiles that are purely bookkeeping or far outside the commuting region are removed.

A black magnifying glass over a stack of cards, one orange card under the lens: searching the market.

Step 03 · Fit ranking

Scope counts more than label

A controller who built the forecast process for a 200-person company ranks above a "finance manager" without business partnering. The rationale shows missing requirements and risks, such as only audit experience.

Many white spheres narrowing into a single line that ends in one orange sphere: ranking candidates.

Step 04 · Personal outreach

Discreet and specific

The message describes the role's influence on the business and the reporting line, avoids anything that could expose the candidate at their employer, and is easy to decline. Your team sets tone and approval.

Three white paper planes with an orange one in front: outreach.

Step 05 · Follow-up and handover

Recruiter takes over the conversation

Controllers who want to talk go to the recruiter with profile, match rationale and conversation. The recruiter handles the confidential part, such as notice period and current package, and checks RA, AA or CFA status where the role needs it.

A black and an orange cylinder touching end to end: the handover from agent to recruiter.

How do finance professionals want to be approached?

Discreetly and to the point. Many finance candidates are well placed and not actively searching, and some work in environments where contact with recruiters is noticed. Keep messages private, do not mention their current employer in a way that could be forwarded, and say clearly what the role changes for them: scope, reporting line, influence on decisions, and whether the step is towards business partnering or deeper into technical accounting.

Timing counts. Avoid long first messages to auditors in the busiest reporting months, and follow up after the peak. For senior and confidential searches, see AIcruiters for executive search; for writing the message itself, the guide to LinkedIn outreach messages helps.

Questions about finance sourcing

Does AIcruiters verify RA or AA registration?

No. It can treat RA or AA as a requirement and show whether a profile mentions it. Where registration matters, your recruiter checks the NBA accountants register.

Can it handle confidential finance searches?

Approval rules can require a person to approve searches, selection and every message, and data access is limited per workflow. For confidential searches it makes sense to keep outreach on manual approval.

Does it understand grade titles like VP or audit manager?

It ranks on the responsibilities and experience in the profile rather than on the title alone, and shows its reasoning so a recruiter can correct edge cases. See candidate ranking.

Is this for agencies or for in-house finance hiring?

Both can work: agencies across several clients, in-house teams for recurring finance roles. See corporate recruitment.
